Future of Web Design – NYC, Nov 16/17th

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

You got it – we’ll be there! And it would be really nice to meet you if you are around – either at the conference or somewhere else (in fact we’ll stay in the City till Nov 22nd). It’s going to be easy to find us – most of the time we will:

  • look sooo happy that we’re in NYC again (Yay!)
  • keep asking a lot of questions
  • talk about Applicake and PipeJump
  • and we might even have a small surprise for you ;-)

Applicake discoveries. Lisboa – miniguide.

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

This year, two Glorious Members of Applicake Family, Paul and myself, decided to spend their summer vacations conquering the World of wine, porto, bulls and olives – Spain and Portugal. Together with two friends of ours we ended up for last week in Lisboa – and that’s what today I want to write about.

Actually, I would like to give you some tips about most important thing in life – FOOD. Now then - food in Lisboa!

(In this place I would like to thank Alex – our Lisboa mentor, who spent there 6 months once and then prepared for us a Great To Do List. Without Alex’s cues, it would be so different there!)

Ok, lets get down to business:

* SEAFOOD

Thanks to Alex we learnt about one a restaurant called Rio Coura (it should be somewhere here).  It may look a bit… raw when you enter, but don’t feel discouraged by the first impression! Food is definitely worth trying here. And it’s not expensive!  A plate of mixed seafood and fish together with a glass of Vinho Verde (delicate, fizzy wine) will take all your problems away!

Rio Coura

We also tried some seafood dishes in restaurants in a small village on the other side of Tagus river (more or less here). To get there you need to take one of the bridges OR a boat course. It’s also delicious and the prices are not that high. Just try avoiding touristic places – you’ll find real Portugal!

* LUNCH PLACES

noo baithis place is great. Seriously! It’s located in the southern part of Lisboa. To enter you need to take sheer stairs, which look a bit like a ladder… And there you are, on a terrace with the greatest view you can imagine!

Any position from lunch menu is worth trying, it’s just a perfect solution for early, hot afternoon.

pasteleria – best portuguese invention ever. It’s a kind of a small bar, where you can order coffee and one of their great pastries, small lunch or just a sweet snack – whatever you like. Visitable any time of the day or night (you just need to learn local habits). Just turn off the tourist track – you will find one!

coffee and… chocolate cake! I am not a coffee fan. I’ve heard it’s cheap and delicious though. And it goes well with… chocolate cake! MY FAVOURITE Remember:
Cafe Royale. CHOCOLATE CAKE ROYALE. It left me speechless…

Still have so many things in my head – Lisboa is much more than food, you know :)
Hope you’ll have great time when land in Lisboa some day!
