Paul’s First Quarter

(or how to prepare a great Apple party and ruin everything 5 mins before it starts)

Have you ever wondered how to celebrate a birthday of somebody who loves chocolate, dupstep and who, most of all, is a complete Appleeverything worshipper?

Here’s the answer: Prepare him/her a surprise Apple party!

Pauls_quarter

A perfect Apple party – our miniguide:

  • ask everybody to dress in white!
  • buy apples, take a bite out of each of them (to give them that, you know, Apple look), then paint them in white and hang all over the place
  • create a quiz “How much do you know about Steve?”
  • let your friends dress up as Mac and a PC and conduct the quiz
  • as a present (and as a prize for the quiz winner) buy a special Steve Jobs outfit – blue jeans and black poloneck
  • finally, order an iPhone birthday chocolate cake!
  • Pauls_quarter
  • additionally, you can think of some minor stuff to ‘create special atmosphere’, like apple punch, special dubstep apple video or a birthday card

My miniguide: how to screw the surprise 5 mins before the zero hour:
Of course, you can skip that part
Just call the person and forget to hang up while explaining to anybody what they should do when our birthday boy enters…

Yeah, it is THAT simple ;)

This is the party that we exactly prepared for Paul, our CTO, for his 25th birthday.
Even despite my perfect screw-up we all had a lot of fun.
And HE liked it. At least he said so!

You can see some photos on flickr.

And again, everybody, thanks for help!

Sharing funny gifts and baking muffins… It must be Christmas!!

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Shortly before Christmas we met at applicake HQ for… Christmas baking competition. Three teams of applicakers were fiercely competing in baking the most delicious muffins. Needless to add (and with a help of spiced mould wine) – we had so much fun!

ho,ho,ho! santa claus

Even Santa Claus dropped by with a bag full of Christmas gifts (ok, they weren’t really ‘presents’ – they were shitty & funny things bought / made by less than 2 euros)!

Here is the winning muffin recipe. Go ahead and try it – it’s really piece of cake ;)

Ingredients

2 large ripe bananas, mashed
1-2 tsp lemon juice
150 g butter
150 g sugar
3 eggs
50 g chopped walnuts
150 g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
salt
12 hazelnuts
powdered sugar

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Prepare muffin tins by brushing the bases with oil or lining with paper cases. Mix mashed bananas with lemon juice.

2. Mix egg, butter and sugar in a bowl, then add mashed bananas and chopped walnuts.

3. Sift the flour, baking powder, soda and salt into another bowl. Pour the egg mixture into the flour mix and fold in with a fork.

4. Put the mixture into the tins filling three quarters full and place half hazelnuts on the top of each. Bake for approximately 20 minutes until golden brown and then let cool for about 5 minutes before removing from muffin tins. Dust with powdered sugar.

After you’re done, it should look somewhat like:

yummy

Bon appétit! :-)
